Psalm 42-43

When a deer gets thirsty it runs through the woods until it finds water.  I’m thirsty God!  So, so, so thirsty for You.  I’m near dehydration, quench my spirit!  I need to drink long gulps of You, God.  Relieve my parched and weary body.  I’m so tired.  So tired.  It’s been too long since I had a decent drink of God’s presence.

All day long people demand my energy and attention.  “Give me!”  “I need!”  “More, more, more!”  I’m always ready to offer a hand.  The first to volunteer whenever there’s a need.  It’s because I love You and want to serve You.  So why am I so tired?  So sad about the way things are going now?  I’ll focus on God and what He’s done for me.  Soon I’ll be singing a happy song of praise.  Thinking of God’s faithfulness brings me joy.   He’s my God.

When I get overwhelmed or sad I rehearse everything I know about You.  From the beauty of Your creation to the way You loved me by giving me my husband and son and daughter.  You always provide for our needs and You’ve shielded me from the emotional damage I ought to have experienced.  You care about me intimately and I can tell.

Sometimes I ask God – God, who I know can handle my complaints, who will never leave me – “Why did You give me this life?  This is too hard!  It’s not what I wanted!”  But I know what I have is so much better, so much richer than what I wished for.

Why am I so tired?  So sad about the way things are going now?  I’ll focus on God and what He’s done for me.  Soon I’ll be singing a happy song of praise.  Thinking of God’s faithfulness brings me joy.  He’s my God.

  1. I love this one in reading them so far. “When I get overwhelmed or sad I rehearse everything I know about You.” This is beautiful advice that I know in my head but never comes to my mind or heart when I am mid-freakout. Thank you so much for the encouragement Christy!!
