Psalm 83

God!  God!  I’m shouting Your name before it’s illegal to say it out loud.

Look at us, God!  We’re our own worst enemy here!  Your enemies are trying to obliterate Your name from our vocabulary.  The say, “God?  Who is God?  God is a word to toss around like a football.  It means nothing!”  Have mercy on us God!  Our foolishness and arrogance will kill us before long.  We can’t live apart from You without feeling the consequences.  But people are plotting to get rid of You.  They don’t want to be reminded that they’re here for a purpose; don’t want to admit that their lives are not their own to squander.  They’d rather not think about the judgement to come.  They don’t want to be held accountable to anyone.

Open their eyes, great God!  Let them hit rock bottom and find You there.  Let them discover Your love before they’re the death of us all.
