Psalm 141

It’s me again sweet Jesus, lover of my soul.
I’m here to meet and connect with You, to hear Your voice and bless You with my own.

Whisper Your words in my heart all day long.  Let Your strong embrace protect me from the lies Satan is trying to feed me.  May Your Spirit’s presence in me keep me from shooting off at the mouth, revealing my selfish, prideful heart.  I will expose my sinful heart to You, gentle Savior, and with the skill of a surgeon, You will remove the sin that prevents intimacy between us.  I trust You explicitly, Lord Jesus, to cover me with Your righteousness and wrap me in Your love.  I am Yours and You are mine.  Use me for Your glory.

Psalm 140

God in Heaven, You are the one true God, the only One who deserves our worship.
Protect my mind and heart from those who would try to convince me otherwise.

I want to worship You alone and not be swayed by those who would have me worship the idols of Family and Sharing.  I will not bow down before the great god of Recycling or sacrifice myself or my family on the enticing altar of Career.  These things are all so good because they were created and intended by You, but they must not receive my worship; they cannot consume my thoughts above You.  Protect my heart, Father God, and may my worship draw others to You alone.

Psalm 139

Come with me to examine my heart, gracious Father.
Were I to do it alone I would either be too easy on myself, making excuses and shifting blame, or too hard, condemning myself as unforgivable.  But if You come along we can address my sins together.  For You alone truly know me Father.  You know me better than I know myself.  Before I even say a word, You know what I am thinking.  You know the secrets of my heart — even the things I won’t admit to myself.  And yet You love me and readily extend forgiveness.  You know when I’m trying my best and when I’m feeling apathetic and lazy.  You know when I exercise self-control and when I don’t.  You know when I rely on You for strength and when I try to go it alone.  You know everything about me!  And yet You love me and readily extend forgiveness.

How can You love me so much?!  Why would You even care about someone as insignificant and sinful as me?!  Because You have been invested in me since conception.  You guided the cells and molecules and DNA that shaped who I am in my mother’s womb.  You know the how and why of every bit of me because You have been lovingly shaping me since before I was born.  I’m no joke!  I was hand-crafted by You, the Artist who made the Universe, and You’re still shaping me, changing my heart, cultivating me into a fruitful daughter in Your Kingdom.

I don’t understand why or how You could love me so much, but God, I comprehend so few of Your thoughts!  Your perfect ways are so much higher than my ways that are sullied with selfishness and pride.  Your thoughts and plans are so beautiful and pure I will never understand them until I meet You face to face.  And let that be soon Lord!  Let that be soon!  I can’t wait to be with You in perfection and to know You, truly know You without the veil of my sin.

Come with me to examine my heart, gracious Father, so that it can be a dwelling place for You.

Psalm 138

Thank You      Thank You      Thank You!!!
I prayed and You answered my prayer!

I say, “Thank You!” and the angels shout, “Uh-huh!”
I say, “Bless Him!” and the angels shout, “Holy!”
Everyone is in agreement that God is worthy to be praised!

Who else can change a person’s heart?!  No one!  Only God!
Who else will gently convict us of our sin while promising relief from our heavy loads in exchange for repentance?  No one!  Only God!

He is the answer!  He can heal our broken hearts, broken identities, and broken marriages!  Find what you are looking for in God.  Even though He is so infinite, He knows us intimately.  He knows what we need before we even know it ourselves.
So let Him fill you.  Find yourself in Him.

I’ll give Him all the thanks; give Him all I’ve got!
“Finish what You started in me, God!”

Psalm 137

Looking at old photos and reminiscing about the way things used to be; missing our carefree days of late nights and mornings, weekly adventures, and deep, meaningful, intimate conversations reminds me that even the best seasons of life are soundless, grainy film reels compared to the way things will be in Heaven’s hi-fi paradise of perfectly knowing and being known.  May I never forget that this life is not the end.

Psalm 136

“Praise God from whom all blessings flow!”
God’s faithful love never makes a mistake.

Praise the One who made something from nothing!
God’s faithful love never makes a mistake.

He is the One who created the universe: galaxies, solar systems, stars, planets, Earth, creatures, people, me.
God’s faithful love never makes a mistake.

He knit me together in my mother’s womb, the product of two sinful people trying to bring Him glory.
God’s faithful love never makes a mistake.

He preserved my mom and I when my dad hurt and abandoned us.
God’s faithful love never makes a mistake.

He sent a new provider and father to care for us.
God’s faithful love never makes a mistake.

He healed the wounds made by the sin of those who were closest to me.
God’s faithful love never makes a mistake.

He is the One who poured blessings of success on me.  He deserves all the praise.
God’s faithful love never makes a mistake.

He guided my steps to the right school, the right friends, the perfect husband.
God’s faithful love never makes a mistake.

Only God could change my stubborn heart.  It is only through His power that I can be a respectful wife, a willing and Godly mom.
God’s faithful love never makes a mistake.

He brought us to this city, church, and neighborhood.
God’s faithful love never makes a mistake.

He continues to draw our hearts closer to Him and give us more boldness to proclaim His name.
God’s faithful love never makes a mistake.

By His power He can rescue the people of this neighborhood.
God’s faithful love never makes a mistake.

He can redeem us all from our sins!
God’s faithful love never makes a mistake.

Praise the name of the One who can save!  Praise Him for all He has done!
God’s faithful love never makes a mistake.

Psalm 135

The One True God is worthy of our praise!  Not just because He created the universe with a word from His mouth; not only because He knows the minutia of our inner workings, yes even our inner thoughts!  He deserves our worship not just because He is more full of grace than we are full of sin; for more reason than His persistent, pursuing love and boundless provision.  We must worship God because we were created to worship God and bring Him glory!

When we worship others they are bound to disappoint us and we will have sacrificed our lives and time to them in vain.  Idolatry is sin and sin leads to death.

When we worship ourselves we have no one to put our hopes in when things go wrong (and know one knows better than me that I am not worthy of worship.)  Idolatry is sin and sin leads to death.

When we worship things, status, money or any thing or god but the One True God, we waste our lives trying to satiate ourselves with something that cannot satisfy!  Idolatry is sin and sin leads to death.

Only God is eternal, only the Trinity of Father, Spirit, and Son can be enough for your soul.  Praise Him!  Praise Him with all that is within you!   Praise His name forever.

Psalm 132

I come from a long line of people who have worshiped God and He has blessed us richly.  And now I do my best to pass on His love to  my children.  Every day I encourage them to praise and thank God for His blessings.  If I only do one important thing while I am here on earth, I hope I can raise children who love the Lord with all their heart and who teach their children to do the same.  I pray that every generation to follow me will follow hard after their Father in Heaven until the day His Son comes back to bring them home.
